It’s possible to enjoy china without understanding the language!

All throughout the year, it is normal to find many tourists roaming around China. Tourists from all around the globe visit China to experience The Great Wall of China or even the excitement of the Hong Kong streets. Regardless of why they visit China, not every tourist will be able to speak the native language. Chinese can be a difficult language to master. If you are planning or thinking about planning a trip to China, it is not completely necessary to understand Chinese. You can take the trip of your dreams without speaking or being able to read a great deal of Chinese.

You might have traveled by plane, car, or China river cruise and now you are in the magical land of China. There are countless areas to Travel, destinations to visit, and restaurants to sample. The big question is how do you get around without speaking or reading Chinese?

A helpful hint is to come prepared! Try to locate maps, brochures, or other items in both English and Chinese. For example, if you have a map of Hong Kong in English and find a location you would like to visit you can easily follow the same pattern along the map and show the taxi driver where you would like to go on the Chinese map. If you are concerned about finding these materials while you are on vacation, try to search online for all of the resources you need and travel with them.

Jetsetters from around the globe also use another trick when they travel abroad and don’t understand the language. Souvenir postcards with hot destination spots can be an easy tool to help translate and show your guide what you would like to see and experience. After you use them to help you get around you can mail them back to family and friends along your journey. Another device that can come in handy is your digital camera. It can do more than take pictures of you on the Great Wall! You can make a “breadcrumb trail” of where you have been and how you got there with your digital camera. If you are on foot you can take pictures of the streets you turn on. You can also use the camera to photograph a restaurant you may want to visit again or even the place you choose to stay. The camera on your phone can also come in handy. If you see a food you want to try you can take an image with your camera phone and ask your hotel staff or taxi driver where to find it.

You hotel concierge or other staff can be an incredible resource. A great number of hotels will employ some staff members that can communicate in English. These staff members may be able to help you catch a cab and/or teach you a few common words in Chinese that could help you along your trip. Regardless if you visit China with some or no understanding of the language, it is possible to enjoy your vacation and discover the rich culture and amazing scenery.
