据介绍，历时一年左右的北京前门大街改造工程已基本完毕。改造后的前门大街换成了青白石路面，再现昔日御道风采，留存在老北京人记忆中的有轨电车、五牌楼等重新展现在人们的眼前，鸟笼、铜鼓、冰糖葫芦等具有老北京特色的路灯也纷纷挂上了前门大街。2008年\”五一”，充满\”京味儿\”的前门步行街将整体亮相，迎接八方宾客。
